"Fu Sheng" Installation Art (Interpretation of the art work)

Materials: photosensitive resin, manual rice paper

The art work is named “Fu Sheng”, this literally means “a floating life”. The idea came from the famous ancient Chinese philosopher, Zhuang Zi. In his philosophy, Life is short and, for most humans, very unpleasant, yet people do feel happiness when they stop thinking and worrying. Chinese people have always loved to admire stone. The art work itself is a famous stone called “Taihu stone”, which could be found in the mountains millions of years ago. Using the sense lights and a coat of rice paper, the stone gleams brightly. When its reflection is looked upon in a mirror, the art work appears like light coming from a cloud, detatched and epiphanic. The artist's intention was to embody the great harmony of life and death, heaven and earth in his artwork, showing the great reverence human beings have for the natural world.
