Róng Design Library
Róng Design Library was founded by PINWU Design Studio in 2015. It is a non-profit welfare organization and the first library in China focusing on traditional handcrafts and materials.
The core mission is to preserve the knowledge of Chinese traditional crafts and related materials. Furthermore, it offers a platform to deconstruct crafts, analyze materials and creating contemporary designs. Programs such as RONG Design Exhibition, Guest Designer Project and others were launched to share our vision to the public and among other creatives.
Zhang Lei Led PINWU to win more than 20 international design awards. Using contemporary design language to redefine the Chinese traditional materials and handcrafts. The design works have exhibited over the world, China, Italy, France, Netherlands, Greece and so on. He founded the Róng Design Library, a non-profit welfare organization with Christoph John and Jovana Zhang together.
Jovana graduated in Belgrade Academy of Applied Arts. She worked in London and Milan before moving to Hangzhou, China 2010. In her work she is focused on balancing decoration, function and future tradition. Traditional material surrounding is inspiring both her work and life in China.
Christoph graduated from the Italian design institution DOMUS Academy, bringing with him an international perspective and cross-disciplinary design experience applied to product design, material innovation, and cross-cultural design. Since joining the PINWU Design team in 2010, he has specialized in material research on traditional Chinese craftsmanship and contemporary design innovation. In recent years, he has engaged in deep collaborations with brands such as JIANGNANBUYI, TUSITA, Dongpeng IW, and JMC, spanning spatial design, artistic installation creation, material aesthetic innovation, and intelligent cockpit development.
Wang Xingze with a background in engineering and business administration, he led the team to complete research of Chinese traditional handicraft in 32 provinces and regions in China, and explored the establishment of research and deconstruction methods and a database of traditional materials; promoted the application of Chinese traditional handicrafts and materials by PINWU and global designers, and managed the operation of the Róng Design Library.
Lu Jingyi graduated from the Politecnico di Milano with a Master's degree in Fashion Design. Has lived and worked in Italy and China for years. Her fields include fashion design, fabric design, jewelry design, art installation, branding and design research. Led the design application of handicraft and materials in various design fields and the craft and material research at the Róng Design Library.
Yu Bin has focused on product innovation design for 20 years, involved in various fields including vehicle, furniture, consumer electronics, household appliances, tools and equipment. By emphasizing the innovative application of materials and technology in the product design process, promote sustainable and creative product design solutions.
