UZAO, launched in 2017 as an embodiment of youth and rebellion and a spiritual symbol, is a branch of Bentu Creation, a pioneering and experimental design brand. The eponymous limited-edition design studio, Studio Buzao, was established in 2019.
BUZAO devotes itself to unbounded experimentation, seeking to break free from contrived creation and express the self through the exploration of materials. By amplifying existing substances, it uncovers and enhances their inherent properties, allowing materials to guide the design process. The brand name "BUZAO" also means "I don't know" in Chinese, which reflects the core driving force behind its design experiments: unforeseeable results often emerge from trials with uncharted materials and craftsmanship.

The concept of Dyed Marble derives from the artificial coloring technique used to falsify agate—workshops recolor inferior stone with chemical dyes to lend it a more valuable hue. Geologically at the micro level, agate and marble share a crystalline rock structure; their homogeneous physical properties, combined with sophisticated modern chemical dyes, form the key to the consistent efficacy of this counterfeiting craft.
We eliminate unnecessary cutting processes, instead arranging and bonding pure stone slabs in repetitive patterns. Amid the ordered assembly, unruly random veining runs through the slabs, shaping volumetric forms of varying scales. We tested the color fastness of nearly ten common marble varieties, extracting and evolving the characteristics of artificial intervention and the property of absorption from modern industry. Through immersion dyeing, a vivid artificial blue spreads organically across the natural stone surface, yielding a unique material expression where man-made color merges with natural texture.
