As a vital component of urban micro aesthetics, materials form the most tangible and immediate interface through which city residents perceive large-scale architecture. They can be touched, magnified, and even “listened to,” carrying both physical and emotional resonance.
Based on foundational research into Liangzhu culture, Agrarian culture, Canal culture, and Zen culture in Hangzhou Yuhang, the PINWU Architecture and Interior Material Design Lab has developed the “Four Design Themes of Micro Aesthetics for the Central Axis City” under the overarching concept of “Tradition and Future Technology.”
Each design theme defines the aesthetic language of materials through five dimensions — materiality, color, texture, pattern, and form — exploring how material aesthetics can bridge urban architecture, traditional culture, and future technology.
