BUT design studio, founded in 2012, is composed of three young designers who love life (Cai Hongshun, Chen Wei and Virgil Kong). We have won domestic and overseas awards in two years we established the studio. We won more than twenty awards such as China Design Challenge Award in Beijing design week, China Red Star Design Award and Taiwan International Design Award. What’s more, we won three Red Dot Design Awards in 2014. People often get into the circle of life, used to the way things are and are lack of thinking, BUT we hope to break these bland state and bring turning point into ordinary life by design. 一 But there’s always another perspective. We focus on the quality and details of life, looking for a balance between design and art, “BUT” is not only the name of our design studio, but also the design concept and action

Materials: stainless steel

Inspired by a paper-cut craft, we realized a special way of cutting a 2D metal plane into 3D convex shape. The “TU” Box is the result of a series of cut shapes. We used several kinds of reference shapes such as Triangle, Square, Hexagon, Triangle & Hexagon, to create different convex combinations. A convex surface fits in well with geometrical cracks. That enables an exciting transformation of metal plates.
