Coal, as a well-known energy source, has propelled the development of modern history with this simple black stone. Mankind has taken from nature and reaped its benefits, yet this has also brought irreversible side effects. Entangled with human nature, wealth, politics and other factors, it is more like a Pandora's box bestowed by nature—leaving us with a love-hate relationship with this black stone. We sometimes wonder: would human development have been better or worse without coal?
Using coal as the raw material, we crafted an exquisite box with a process similar to terrazzo production, inlaid with copper sheets for ornamentation. It is like a gift from nature; when we open it, what do we hope to gain? And will what we get be what we expect?
