2026 Rong Residency Designer Open Call | Spring Session
Since 2015, Rong Design Library has initiated the Rong Residency Designer Program, inviting designers from around the world to come to China for a one-month residency. Through on-site research, design development, prototyping, and production, each resident completes a work (or a series of works). Over the past decade, more than sixty designers from dozens of countries and regions have engaged here in an ongoing dialogue about materials, culture, and imagination.
The Rong Residency Designer Program aims to foster a vibrant design environment where traditional Chinese craftsmanship meets contemporary design. Rather than a closed residency, it is an open playground—one in which designers can rethink and reshape the boundaries between craft and contemporary practice.
The 2026 residency program will be opened to the public for the first time, welcoming applications from all designers. The spring residency is expected to take place from March to May 2026, with exact dates to be determined through mutual discussion between selected candidates and the Rong Design Library.
